Travel | Denver, Colorado

My husband and I took a trip to Denver to visit my brother this past August.  Once my brother found out we had never been camping, the type where you off-road through the mountains and “find a good spot,” he decided it was time for us to go!  My brother has taken me on some off-roading adventures when he lived in Oregon, so I had an idea of what we were getting into.  This wasn’t quite as crazy of an adventure as Oregon was (driving on logging roads just inches away from a drop-off in icy and snowy conditions), but it was a lot of fun and something we need to do more often!

My brother took us to one of the largest mountains in Colorado (Mount Massive, I believe).  We traveled through the well traveled roads through the camp sites, across rivers and streams that came well up the side of the car, and over some pretty steep boulders an found the perfect campsite (though it could have been warmer).  The structures in the photos below are of a 1800s/1900s gold mine (unsure of exact dates).  It was making a lot of creaking sounds and looks like it could fall over any day, I’m glad we got some photos.  We also brought our puppy, Sully, who had fun with my brother’s Bernese Mt. Dog, McKenzie.
